Flat Roofing

When it comes to Flat Roofing, there are a number of options available to you. Each of these options has their own benefits and their own faults, so check out the following pros and cons list of flat roofing. If you need more information about any of them, please contact any of our professionals in Garvin metal roofing.

Built Up Roof (BUR)- This is the most traditional roof amongst Flat Roofs. Its popularity makes it the most memorable of roofs. Three or even more layers of waterproof material, including gravel, each of them covered in hot tar, make it very resistant to water. The materials that comprise BURs are resistant to fire, however, they can be a little heavier than other flat roofs.

Modified Bitumen – This single ply roof has a mineral-based surface and it is available in peel and stick roof type or torch-down. The former method is becoming less common in the market, as it’s been marked as a potential fire hazard, unlike the peel and stick type, which is becoming increasingly more popular. Modified Bitumen will conserve your energy more efficiently, thanks to its mineral-based surface.

Rubber Membrane (EPDM) – Installing a Rubber Membrane roof can be done in a few different ways; it can either be glued, rocks can hold it down or fasteners can even staple it securely. Even though the usual color of Rubber Membrane is black, a lighter material can coat it in order to reflect the heat. However, this will make your costs increase by a 30%.
